“For God so loved [the people of Cuba] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The Republic of Cuba is an island country in the Caribbean. The United States, the Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica, and Haiti are near neighbors. Cuba has a population of more than 11 million. Its capital and largest city is Havana. Cuba’s official language is Spanish. The national motto is: “Homeland or death, we shall overcome!” The reference to “death” is tragically fitting. Cuba is a police state. Its citizens are prisoners in their own homeland. The Communists murder anyone who attempts to escape to freedom. Today we pray that the Cuban people will be “more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Rom. 8:37).
