Speaking the Truth in Love

Ecuador

“For God so loved [the people of Ecuador] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

The Republic of Ecuador is situated in northwest South America. The country is bordered by Colombia, Peru, and the Pacific Ocean. Ecuador’s territory includes the Galapagos Islands, located some 600 miles from the mainland. Ecuador (meaning “equator” in Spanish) has a population of more than 16 million. Its capital is Quito. Its largest city is Guayaquil.

Ecuador’s official language is Spanish. The national motto is: “God, homeland and freedom.” More than 70% of the population belong to the Catholic Church. Today we pray that every Ecuadorian will turn away from human tradition and revere only the true Head of the church: “He [Jesus] is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent” (Col. 1:18).
