“For God so loved [the people of Guatemala] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The Republic of Guatemala is located in Central America. The country is bordered by Mexico, Belize, the
Caribbean, Honduras, El Salvador, and the Pacific. With a population of almost 16 million, Guatemala is
the most populous nation in Central America. Its capital and largest city is Guatemala City.
Guatemala’s official language is Spanish. Catholicism is predominant, but Protestant churches are
growing rapidly. The national motto is: “Grow free and fertile.” Today we pray that every Guatemalan
will “lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing
in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1:10).
