Minnie grew up in Kaufman where she and her family grew everything they ate except flour and coffee. Things were good but being from an immigrant family, they were not really accepted. They spent a lot of time together as a family but did not socialize much. Minnie’s grandparents migrated to the united states from Czechoslovakia, and although Minnie did learn to speak English, she did not speak fluent English entering the first grade. To help her during those tough transition years, she adopted a pet – the pets name was Piggy and yes, it was a pig. Piggy would meet her at the school bus stop each afternoon to welcome her home.
Minnie, also known to those around the church and community as “Cookie,” joined the church “around 30 years ago” where she was baptized by W.A. Martin. Her nickname “Cookie” came from her Daddy, he started calling her that at an early age and it has stayed with her all these years. Minnie and Earnest have been happily married since February 23, 1963.
Minnie’s passions include her children, teaching, gardening, and traveling. Proverbs 3:5 is her favorite scripture because “it keeps me focused on God.” Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
