Speaking the Truth in Love

Larry Mathis

Larry Mathis was appointed to the Seagoville eldership in the spring of 2010. He was born in Dallas and raised in Seagoville. He has two sisters, Paula Hughes and Kathy Heath, and one living brother, Wayne Mathis, who preaches for a congregation in Virginia. Pauline Smith, Larry’s widowed mother, is the oldest member of the Seagoville congregation still able to attend worship services regularly. Larry’s father, Troy Mathis Sr., at one time served the church as an elder himself.

Larry married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Pearson, in 1965. They have two daughters, Gretchen and LeAnn. They also have five grandsons, Angel, Adisen, Joseph, Christian, and Will, and one granddaughter, Lea.

Larry attended Henderson County Junior College in Athens, Texas for two years and then Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas until 1967 when he was called to serve our country in the war in South Viet Nam.

After serving his country, he devoted our career to sales (primarily selling music and insurance). Now in his retirement years, he manages a self-storage facility. For fun, Larry likes to play golf, read, listen to classic country music, sing karaoke, and watch his grandchildren in their many activities.
