Speaking the Truth in Love

The Sunday Forecast

Lord, I love you with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind, so there’s a 100% chance that I’ll be in church this Sunday. I can’t wait to praise your name in song and prayer, remember your Son in communion, listen to the reading and preaching of your word, give thanks with an offering, and enjoy fellowship with my brothers and sisters!

See the source imageWait a minute, Lord. I just looked at my phone. It may rain on Sunday. The meteorologists are predicting some scattered showers. I hate to get wet, especially in my dress clothes. If I’m going to a ball game, a little rain doesn’t really bother me. I just carry my umbrella and wear some extra layers. Of course, scattered showers usually don’t amount to much, so there’s an 80% chance that I’ll be in church this Sunday.

See the source image Oh, and I just remembered something, Lord. The wife and I are planning to go out to eat on Saturday night and then take in a movie. The film starts at 9:40. That will get us home sort of late. We may not crawl into bed before midnight. Getting up early the next morning could be a real challenge. We may not hear the alarm, or we may keep hitting the snooze by accident, so the chances of my being in church on Sunday are probably more like 50%.

See the source image Lord, I hate to tell you this, but my mother just texted us an invitation to Sunday morning brunch. The whole family is coming. I haven’t seen my brother in a while, so I hate to miss this. I really wish that my parents would plan family get-togethers on Saturdays, but they’re not Christians, and their priorities are a little mixed up. Anyway, it’s looking like the chances of my being in church this Sunday are about 0%See the source image

But, Lord, I love you with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind, so the chances of my being in church next Sunday are 100%.
