“For God so loved [the people of Germany] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The Federal Republic of Germany is a nation in western-central Europe. Denmark, Poland, the Czech
Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands are bordering
countries. With its population of more than 81 million, Germany is the most populous state in the
European Union. Its capital and largest city is Berlin.
German is the country’s official language. Two-thirds of the German people profess Christianity, but a
significant number of citizens declare themselves to be agnostic, atheist, or irreligious. Today we pray
that every German will believe the truth, for “Without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever
would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Heb. 11:6).
