“For God so loved [the people of Guyana] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should
not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The Co-operative Republic of Guyana is situated on the northern mainland of South America. The
country is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Brazil, Suriname, and Venezuela. Guyana has a small
population of only about 700,000. Its capital and largest city is Georgetown.
Guyana is the only South American nation where English is the official language. Its motto is “one
people, one nation, one destiny.” Today we pray that every Guyanese citizen will believe the teaching of
Jesus, who says that people must choose between two destinies: “Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is
wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is
narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matt. 7:13-14).
